Welcome
Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani
I take great pleasure in welcoming you to Doha this October for Qatar Creates, the gathering that inaugurates our fall season. This year, we come together with a special sense of celebration under the umbrella of “Evolution Nation,” a tribute to five decades of creativity, heritage, and cultural dynamism in Qatar.
Evolution Nation marks the 50th anniversary of the National Museum of Qatar, alongside significant anniversaries across many of our institutions. These milestones offer a powerful moment to reflect on our cultural journey, shaped by resilience and imagination, and to look ahead with renewed purpose.
This season’s Qatar Creates brings together groundbreaking exhibitions, thought-provoking commissions, and cross-cultural collaborations. At the National Museum of Qatar, A Nation’s Legacy, A People’s Memory retraces the story of a nation in transformation. At the Museum of Islamic Art and Al Riwaq, I. M. Pei: Life Is Architecture celebrates the enduring legacy of one of the most visionary architects of our time. Countryside: A Place to Live, Not to Leave at Qatar Preparatory School and the National Museum of Qatar opens a timely dialogue about land, sustainability, and rural futures. At Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art, the museum’s 15th anniversary is marked by two exhibitions, titled we refuse_d and Resolutions, which explore resilience, identity, and the evolving role of modern Arab art. At the Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum, Sneakers Unboxed: Studio to Street traces the global rise of the sneaker, following its journey from athletic wear to cultural icon. At M7, Threads of Impact highlights the trailblazing talent nurtured by Fashion Trust Arabia over the past seven years.
In these exhibitions and more, our guests at Qatar Creates will encounter the many voices and ideas that continue to define Qatar as a cultural destination and a creative force.
I hope your time in Doha will be as inspiring as it is engaging, offering moments of discovery, connection, and reflection.
Thank you for joining us as we honor the people, ideas, and institutions that have shaped our cultural legacy and continue to define its future.
Sincerely,
Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani
